The keel to his present work as a marine artist was laid early in his life.
Being a grandson to
a sailing ship captain, he made his first shipboard drawings at the age of three.
When he was 15 he took to the sea, first as a cadet on the Danish sail training vessel Georg Stage,
later on in the merchant fleet and on board the schooner Brita Leth.

Then he gave up his career as a sailor and went to an art academy, where he spent three years,
developing his drawing and painting skills.
He is now living with his family in the north west part  of Sjælland, with a striking view

from his studio to the Isefjord.

His wooden 20ft sailing craft from 1940 gives him the opportunity
to seek out fresh maritime inspiration on the fjord.

"My work takes two directions"

"In the field, face to face with my motive. My motto is to  finish the painting on the spot.

I love the spontaneity and the surprises in that process.  In the studio, on the other hand,
I can spend months working on an elaborate oil
painting, going into minute details.

Both forms of expression interest me profoundly and they supplement each other very well.

I am grateful to my old ship, the full rigged Georg Stage,
for two atlantic voyages in 1994 and 1995.
These voyages expanded my knowledge of tall ship
navigation in deep waters.
I keep abreast modern shipping through occasional sailing trips in
merchant vessels,
as well as commissioned work for related companies."
